weekending

weekending. my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just be. if you’d like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to your weekend post or flickr photo in the comments.
+++++

the weekend started with sleeping in saturday morning and
a spontaneous decision to go pick blueberries
bedheaded littles piled into the car
munching warm donuts
while mama and daddy listened to a little car talk because no saturday is complete without it
feet up on the dashboard as we sailed down the highway
trucks on the side of the highway selling peaches and watermelon
and really, there is nothing better than a peach that has spent the morning basking in the sun
warm juices dribbling down my chin
blueberries galore and time spent talking with the mr.’s friend
kids running around chasing the dog and cats
late afternoon drive home and seeing the smile on an
elderly friend’s face as we drop off freshly picked blueberries
sunday morning reality: laundry
and lots of it
more bedhead and a definite pajama day
trying to make use of the last of the strawberries i picked up friday
means jam making and a sweet treat

how was your weekend?

Hehe, my Sat isn’t complete with car Talk either. I listen to it to and from the dump. I haven’t had a good warm roadside peach since my childhood in Greece. Same goes for watermelon. Nothing like it! For blueberries my mother gave me a small aluminum bucket with a wire handle on it when my youngest was little. It makes the same “Kerplink, kerplank, kerplunk” noise from “Blueberries for Sal”.ReplyCancel

  • Blueberry picking is one of the best things about summer! It’s a tradition in our house, though our little one’s still too little to come along. I love your imagery. Reading your weekending posts makes me feel calm and happy :) ReplyCancel

  • Blueberries and fresh peaches… it doesn’t get any better than that. It sounds divine, dear friend!

We had a weekend that was unexpectedly wonderful. Pizza and knitting and late night mother daughter talks, pool time, eskimo kisses from Grammy and rock collecting for a new craft. But most of all, cuddles for Baby Kate when daddy got home at last.

  • What a sweet and mellow weekend. And what a great link at the end for the sweet treat!
I can’t wait until our blueberry bush has more than 10 blueberries on it! I think I need to plant a few more…

  • My weekend was filled with peaches, cherries and mango. They are in peak season and I could eat them all day. Bought from the Vietnamese man in his 24hour corner shop – not quite the same as from the truck on the highway, but delicious all the same!ReplyCancel

  • That sounds like a very good weekend :) And who would be afraid of no more strawberries if there were fresh blueberries instead? (I was.)ReplyCancel

  • we had a lovely weekend, even though the weather was wet and grey at times. we were out in the country at some friends’ house and had a barbecue and a bonfire with marshmellows and strawberries. heavenly!!ReplyCancel

  • We picked blueberries this weekend too: love them. I love the thought of a pj day and will have to have one here soon, it’s been too long. Thanks for the link to the bread recipe; I plan on trying it this week.ReplyCancel

  • My weekend wasn’t nearly as delicious as yours! Well, maybe it was. Just not as healthy delicious as we feasted on key lime coconut cupcakes, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, chocolate dipped strawberries, sparkling punches and skittles (there was significance behind these) at a wedding shower and a baby shower… ;)

  • Your weekend sounds just lovely. In my quest to wean Steve off of TV, we agreed that the tube stays off on Saturday mornings. So, NPR has become part of our Saturday morning routine and I love it. :)

  • Oh my what a beautifully fruity weekend! There is almost so much work. It is difficult for me to try to be spontaneous and keep the house upright simultaneously. You always describe your weekends so beautifully; I love reading about them. We had a great birthday and fruit weekend! http://peachcoglo.typepad.com/peach-coglo/2011/06/weekending-june-26-2011.htmlReplyCancel

  • Sounds exactly like my car on Saturday, of course I did manage to have some knitting in my lap while my feet were on the dashboard listening to cartalk! Those berries look great, I can’t wait for them to be ready here.ReplyCancel

  • Blueberries and watermelon juice dripping down chins — perfect. If you’re anything like us, you try to guess what is wrong with a car as you listen to click and clack. I swear I know about engines from my decade obsession with that show.
Going for a long summer drive sounds dreamy. Feet on the dash, sweaty skin stuck to the seatbelt.
Driving around the island in circles doesn’t quite cut the road trip/adventure bug I’ve got.
    Lovely weekending. Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel
