weekending

weekending. my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just be. if you’d like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to your weekend post or flickr photo in the comments.
+++++

the weekend was recovering from our time away
trip to see the grands, introduce them to our little miss
impromptu trip to the beach
it was good, so very good
sand, salt air, the rush of the ocean
it’s my happy place

little toes were dipped into the water
training her early to love this
this place, the sand, the seaweed

we rode the ferry
collected shells, modeled seaweed hairdos
and have welcomed two hermit crabs into the family
this weekend is all about soft landings and easing back into the everyday
meals prepared, dust bunnies, speech appointments
turning in library books, washing clothes and
loving the sand that falls out of them
seashells strewn across my desk
holding tight to theses memories

how was your weekend?

ps: i’m over here too. go check out the project and get involved – the more the merrier!

Awww, I love seeing photos like this. The sea is a wonderful place and I’m glad you are training your littlest to love it already. My weekend isn’t over yet since tomorrow is a holiday but it’s good, all good. Some exercising, a family wedding, and today we have wonderful friends coming over for some grilling and a fire in our fire pit. I love this time of year!

TraceyMay 27, 2012 - 10:47 am

There is something soul touching about the sea isn’t there? So very glad you had a this trip Amanda although I did miss you. Love seeing you and little miss [and we have the same glasses]. Welcome home!

swanskiMay 27, 2012 - 10:53 am

LOVE your hair :) I have little wispy grays and I’m not dyeing them. I love the photo of your daughter toe dipping in the water! Glad you had a good visit and two hermit crabs??? How fun! We had those dear pets once.

MelissaMay 27, 2012 - 11:02 am

What a wonderful trip! I feel that time at the beach carries stress out with the wave…serenity. Welcome back to the ol’ grind!

JenMay 27, 2012 - 11:52 am

I love the ocean as well! My little one went yesterday with her Aunt; she thought the sand was too dirty and didn’t want to stay! We’ll have to cure her of that this summer! :-)

Here’s my weekend post: http://ihappyree.blogspot.com/2012/05/weekending_27.html

Emily T.May 27, 2012 - 1:21 pm

Oh I love those little toes in the water.. beautiful moments.

underthebigblueskyMay 27, 2012 - 1:25 pm

oh to be by the sea. the girls were begging to head to the ocean this weekend, but i said, no, no not on a holiday. so we plan to go in the next week or two. even though we go for the day, they demand to stay and see the sunset.

hope you keep a bit of sand in with those shells.

and glad you got some grands time. love the photo of you and the wee one, enjoy your soft landing.

stephMay 27, 2012 - 2:18 pm

It just isn’t summer until we get our “beach fix”!!! We don’t go til mid June—but are having the whole family (all 13 of us!!!!) together in a single house; making memories…..so very very important! Sounds like you made some wonderful ones!!!

HegeMay 27, 2012 - 2:25 pm

Oh, how I wish we could dip our toes in the ocean!!

well, it’s been a full-on weekend!

there’s been some study, and making photographs, early morning breakfasts outside in the sunshine, a bike ride, a picnic, a new book (if you haven’t already read it, try “the particular sadness of lemon cake”), iced tea, and the first public announcements of weekends collected: http://weekendscollected.com! (i’m so SO happy you have joined me over there)

gorgeous (<– GORGEOUS!!) photographs of you & your family. i do miss the sea…

KatieMay 27, 2012 - 2:53 pm

Divine – all of it. The two very most wonderful gifts I’ve ever been given are family and growing up at sea’s shore. How wonderful that your kids mix ocean with grands. They’ll never forget, I bet. Welcome home. :)

HeatherMay 27, 2012 - 2:55 pm

So glad you are easing back into home. The sea is so wonderful. I am planning a quick trip in the coming weeks for a chance to dip my toes. Love the acquisition of hermit crabs

thank you! and i looked up the book and am intrigued…adding it to the to-read list.

DebbieMay 27, 2012 - 6:25 pm

Only one of my children got to go to the beach as a baby…my oldest son was born in Central California 21-years-ago and when he was very little, we took him to the beach in Monterrey and dipped his little feet in the water. It was the July Fourth weekend and the sky was filled with low hanging clouds and the water was cold. He cried at the chill on his little toes. His older sisters laughed with joy and played in the cold surf… just happy to be there. They didn’t care that the water was cold. It was a wonderful weekend and a good memory brought on by weekend pictures. Thanks.

Beautiful weekend you so happily deserve. I love the sweet look on ‘her’ face looking and feeling the water! Am really happy too that you have so many visitors to your site and so many comments. Here is some of my weekend;

That first photo is so beautiful. Visiting the seaside is truly special – one can’t help but be refreshed by it! Oh, and seashells! I can’t remember the last time I collected them, such a hard back to my childhood.

It’s been a while since my last weekending post, but so happy to have done one this week:

A beach getaway is perfect! I would love to have a close beach!

ManiseMay 28, 2012 - 8:53 am

Sounds like you all had a wonderful week! Love the way a baby first experiences the ocean- the unexpected cold and tickling of the water on their toes and the worried expressions initially until they realize it’s actually fun as their siblings laugh and splash around. Great photos as always.

Went to a fiber festival in my state and had a few good hours communing with my fiber peeps and vendors. Beautiful weather punctuated with showers of yellow pollen from the pine trees. It’s in every crack and crevasse. Even the dear gray tree frog was covered. Sadly was unable to get a photo of him jumping up into my Mister’s beard. The cars are a new color and our 2 black labs look like they’ve roiled in yellow paint powder after a romp outside. Listening to hummingbirds outside the window looking for food amongst the foxgloves which started to bloom yesterday. Ribs on the grill later today. A good weekend with an extra day tomorrow.

MJMay 28, 2012 - 10:18 am

I cannot believe how big she already looks! Your pics of the beach are lovely, I do believe I will miss the beach this summer, and thanks for the link to Leonie’s project, it looks awesome :) .

Cheers Amanda and welcome home!

I’ve never considered myself a beach girl, growing up land-locked as I have. I’m a terrible swimmer and I hate wearing a bathing suit. But I’m pretty sure I could get used to living by the shore. Yes, indeed, you make it sound so lovely . . .

CatherineMay 28, 2012 - 10:39 am

There is nothing like baby toes in the ocean! Happy place indeed.

Oh yes, the beach is my happy place too! I need to get back there soon….its been weeks! Love the photos.

I am not a beach person. I prefer mountains and streams. But every time I read your blog, I am taken back to Monterey, Cali and I can smell the ocean and hear the sea lions barking. Sigh. I miss it.
