weekending

weekending. my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just be. if you’d like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to your weekend post or flickr photo in the comments.
+++++

this weekend was waking up saturday morning to
find out i’m out of iced coffee
settling for hot coffee then having
coffee hour with my grandma
over the phone, she’s cool like that
took myself out to lunch, much needed quiet
sat under the shade of an ancient live oak with my honey while
we watched the red bean ride
chatted, daydreamed, talked about what ifs

we feasted on bbq chicken and potato salad just like my
grandma makes and the only potato salad i’ll eat
she taught me to make it years ago and it always reminds me of
my childhood summers spent on the beach
the sounds of the night sea floating through windows flung open wide
her potato salad is pure magic, nostalgia on a fork

this morning was one of those perfect sunday mornings
steaming cup of coffee, the crossword, bagels with lox
lingering at the table discussing a project
yep, breakfast table collaboration, it’s a beautiful thing

how was your weekend?

Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the rest of it.

AnnieJune 3, 2012 - 10:13 am

I cannot explain why, but for just a moment I thought that you had written “bagels with fox.” Happy weekend, Amanda!

HeatherJune 3, 2012 - 10:49 am

love, love, love the horse visiting ensemble. So similar to our days. I am missing having our own little outdoor place lately. So glad you have yours to spend time with the mr.

TraceyJune 3, 2012 - 10:58 am

Funny, my children will only eat my potato salad from the recipe I got from my grandmother…that’s what makes a tradition. It’s a beautiful weekend here and
I am thankful!

What a lovely weekend! The picture you gave a hearing the ocean from your bed at night seems incredible! I’ve never done that!

swanskiJune 3, 2012 - 11:38 am

Potato salad is a funny thing, my sis and I will only eat our recipe and of course it is the BEST recipe. Your little nacho is adorable zonked out while the world around him is existing. Love his hat/gun/and “cowboy” boots!!!

What a wonderful weekend… My Grandpa only liked potato salad one way, and my gramma taught my mom, and she taught me. I was the grand daughter who made the potato salad for the family gatherings along with lemon meringue pie, another favorite that I made for him. I miss him, but I remember his smile every time I eat that delicious salad.

Our weekend was bittersweet… http://edegraw.me/life/weekending-keep-calm/

Nostalgia on a fork. I like that.

I was supposed to celebrate my b-day with my best girl friend but it got nixed due to tornado warnings (and one did touch down near us). Saturday was gorgeous with an evening spent on the deck with homemade pizza and friends.

Sounds like you had an overall good weekend…I’m with you on potato salad…I liked my mothers and my mother-in-laws. I try to make mine like theirs. Other potato salad can be gross! Breakfast table collaboration is the best! I am resting and trying to get feeling better. Here is our weekend: http://www.charlyanddebbie.blogspot.com
Have a great week.

What a perfect weekend. For some reason I can smell the horse from here. :-) Love the sniffs Nacho is getting.

Celebrated the end of pine pollen “yellow” season with a soggy day of rain on Saturday- 2 inches worth. Went to my Swirl class today and then hauled out to central MA so as not to miss out on the tail end of a farm visit with a favorite shepherd and other CSA members. Beautiful scenery there and back listening to NPR. Taco / fajita dinner with the whole family at the table.

I’ve read this post aloud to myself five times, each time ending with a giant {sigh} and a sideways smile. I love the way you write. Grandma’s potato salad, a solo lunch date, coffee-talk. It’s bits of the good life well woven. But it’s the idea of sitting under the shade of an oak with the one I love that makes me want to toast you, so here’s to a mason jar filled to the brim with iced coffee held high in the NW for you, my dear.

Oh that second picture is priceless. I grew up with my own horse, I can’t wait to give my son horse lessons. I’m so happy to be joining in this week:

Ooohhh, yum! Delicious weekend.

I’m into Japanese iced coffee but I’m interested in how you have yours?

Thanks for sharing your wonderful weekend with us all.

Great weekend. I love the pics! Two things come to mind: one, all coffee is good coffee, and two, I do so miss my mom’s potato salad, which was the only potato salad I’d ever eat. A woman’s potato salad carries the stamp of her—no two are the same ;-;

Courtney {A Life Sustained}June 4, 2012 - 7:28 am

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who has strong opinions about potato salad. There really is only *one* way to do it isn’t there? Sounds like a wonderful weekend, Amanda, hope the week proceeds just as well. :)

Love that second photo – brilliant.
Funny thing with potato salad. I love my mum’s. Maybe it’s time I got the recipe, since I don’t get to see her that often?

Isn’t it amazing how certain foods take us back to our childhood? Fig preserves, pickles, fried okra, potato salad, chicken salad….all bits of my childhood. I hope I’ve created those memories for my boys. Love the photos!

adminJune 4, 2012 - 9:50 am

adminJune 4, 2012 - 9:53 am

yes, in reality all coffee is good coffee but down here in the south, drinking hot coffee means sweating :(

adminJune 4, 2012 - 9:54 am

YES!!! i can’t do potato salad dressed with mayonnaise. cannot. for me, it’s my grandmother’s potato salad or no potato salad, pretty black and white on this, eh?

I’m not sure where my potato salad recipe comes from but I’ve tried a few continental ones recently but somehow they don’t taste right.

Your weekend sounded like another perfect one. Love the coffee hour with grandma…I do that with my sisters.
