weekending

weekending. my favorite part of the week. a time to relax, live, love, just be. if you’d like to share your weekend either with words, photographs, or both, leave a link to your weekend post or flickr photo in the comments.
+++++

this weekend was mellow
mellow and well, just a bit lazy
grey skies, gentle rumblings
the gentle hush hush of rain
enjoying the silence of my house while
kids buried their noses in books
imagining faraway places
i did nothing for a while
no knitting, no reading, no writing
just staring out the window watching
the rain fall, rain dancing down glass
still finding seashells in hidden places which
makes me love my kids madly
standing under an umbrella
rain dancing at my feet because the
red bean was sure her horse friends needed
company and carrots (they did)
red wine and the tudors season two
standing in the light of the freezer at midnight
eating homemade strawberry ice cream from the container
made from the last of the local strawberries, raw milk
my man makes a mean ice cream
today, more rain, more nothing

how was your weekend?

ps: i’m giving away a copy of this i know by susannah conway. to enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post.

A lovely date with my daughter to restore a bit of balance and remind her just how special she is. Would love some of that strawberry ice cream. Miss our raw milk source.

We are suppose to have a rainy afternoon and I do wish it would get here, I do love the sound of rain as it hits the roof. Eating homemade out of the container by freezer light must be heaven on a spoon..enjoy!

Rain here too… so nice really–it washes away any concerns of laziness, and welcomes it instead…
I enjoyed the Tudors very much, and am now working on season 2 of Downton Abbey. LOVE that show. Have a great week Amanda!

Nothing…can be a beautiful thing.
…with some icecream ofcourse :)
Happy Sunday!

kristenJune 10, 2012 - 11:14 am

aren’t ‘the tudors’ so visually and everything stimulating? :)

i’ve been reading a lot – always my escape and release. total, mind candy – nothing literary and
it feels good to not have to think or be provoked to think, (heehee), with this anne rice series i
picked up at the library.

this weekend is all about packing and then some more packing, (ugh), with a movie last night
and a hike and dinner today. it’s nice to work hard and then have an evening of fun.

I so want to make my own ice cream someday! I love rainy days. Gives a slowness to the day that is so peaceful. Our weekend was full of sunshine…which is good too! (As long as it doesn’t get too hot!)

So often I get discouraged about the lack of creativity in our culture. I notice this particularly in myself as I spend too much time on the computer, watching tv, and simply partaking in habitual activities. Actively using our minds is becoming less of a necessity as we rely on technology to be creative for us! How do we be creative in a technological world? I’d absolutely love to read this book!

PKJJune 10, 2012 - 10:41 pm

ah the poetry of rainy days…sometimes they grew such great ideas.

We were too busy being social butterflies for much pondering:

Baby by the SeaJune 10, 2012 - 11:20 pm

I get what you mean about staring in the rain. It was that way around here for a while. But the way you described it – so lovely, like a scene painted in that crisp blue of sea glass.
Homemade ice cream – what a keeper you’ve got there. I know you already know that of course. I meant to make some ice cream with a second hand maker I picked up. I just might now, the idea of sneaking down to devour some with bare toes on chilly kitchen floors is almost too much.

“Never underestimate the value of doing nothing” ~A.A.Milne

“What I like doing best is Nothing.”
“How do you do Nothing,” asked Pooh after he had wondered for a long time.
“Well, it’s when people call out at you just as you’re going off to do it, ‘What are you going to do, Christopher Robin?’ and you say, ‘Oh, Nothing,’ and then you go and do it.”

truth – i longed to have nothing to do all weekend :)

We sat under umbrellas of shade, hiding our bare toes from a midwest heat wave as we watched our boys play in their last soccer tournament of the season. I heart your sweet blog:) XO

You make “nothing” sound so blissful. I want some of that so I think I’ll plan for some “nothing” in a few weeks. That ice cream sounds delicious and I don’t even like strawberry ice cream. Such a lovely weekend.
