winter

winter in south louisiana leaves a lot to be desired but the cypress, they never fail to regale me with their color. each afternoon as the sun sets, i am drawn outdoors long enough to see them aflame in all their fiery glory. a rusty red blaze of a swan song that i never tire of.

and today, winter solstice, it seems we have a touch of winter. cold and bright. i’ll be out this afternoon drinking in the cypress and the setting sun. how will you mark the solstice?

i’ll be away from this space to celebrate the solstice, a first birthday, christmas…popping back in at some point between christmas and new year. so until then, stay warm, hug your loved ones, and enjoy this holiday season!

+++++
ps: in case you missed it yesterday, i have a post over at rhythm of the home.

pps: the upcoming themes for kindred have been posted over here!

The older I get, the more I love winter in the south. No, we don’t get the pretty snow, but we also don’t get all the work that comes along with it.

Very Merry Christmas to you and yours.

May all your celebrations be merry and bright. Happiness and joy to you and yours, Amanda.

Happy Solstice! (:

We spend a cozy evening at home. A yummy, hot meal is prepared, a fire is lit, wishes are made. And then the goodies are doled out to the boys. Chaos usually follows. (:

A happy birthday to your little one and a wonderful holiday season to you and the family!

Happy Winter Solstice!

We will watch the stars and make wishes on the new season. We will tuck inside by the fire and tackle a BIG puzzle. Today marks the end of school for Winter break so we will hear many “Wahooo’s” coming from every room in the house. There might even be cups of hot cocoa in our future, yes most definitely!

Happy Holidays to you and your lovely family Amanda.

Beautiful. Reminds me of the color of so many Southern rivers, caramelized sugar-brown from the Cypress roots. We’re celebrating the solstice today by taking a nice long walk this afternoon and lighting candles all over the house tonight while we enjoy a munchie dinner of snacks and treats. Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday! xo, Katie

Such lovely pictures!!! :-) We’re celebrating tonight by going to Celebration in the Oaks where my daughter is performing with her dance school. We will shiver and smile and ride the rides and look at the lights. Then begins a flurry of baking over the next few days. And the holidays culminate with spending Christmas Eve with my inlaws and Christmas day with my family. It’s a busy and lovely time. Wishing everyone a Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas and a lovely holiday. May next year be a better one for us all.
